Over 4000 State Government employees are currently living in GROH houses in rural and remote areas around Western Australia.
GROHs role is to make your country posting as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, by providing a pleasant, well-maintained home for your use.
Government employees are allocated GROH homes at the discretion of their employers. Any concerns or queries about eligibility and allocation of GROH housing should be directed to your employer.

Tenants no longer need to arrange a Special Water Meter Reading. This is now done by GROH automatically. |

To keep the premises clean
To repair damages caused by yourselves or your guests
To be considerate of neighbours
To observe local government regulations and by-laws.
Give GROH 21 days written notice of your intention to vacate your GROH home.
On departing, to return keys, have the carpet professionally cleaned, and generally leave the property in good order
Report maintenance when required
Provide GROH with a forwarding address
Pay your water accounts (unless living in a serviced unit)
Home Maintenance
If you are living in a GROH property, you are encouraged to treat it as your own. Make yourself at home.
If unintentional damage or general breakdowns occur, please notify your local GROH or DHW office during business hours to arrange for repairs to be carried out.
Garden Maintenance
It is your responsibility to maintain your grounds and garden .You are required to keep lawns watered, comply with sprinkler restrictions, mow lawn areas regularly and remove weeds and debris as required.
How are GROH rents calculated?
All Government agencies proclaimed under the Government Employees' Housing Act 1964 are required to charge their employees rent as calculated, using the Tenants' Rent Setting Framework.
What is the Tenants' Rent Setting Framework?
Introduced in September 2000, it categorises individual properties based on age and design. The current Perth median rent is discounted, then area discounts are applied, taking into account factors such as distance from Perth, the coast, regional centres and general amenity of the locality.
How do I pay my GROH rent?
Tenants pay rent directly to their employing agency or department.
The Rent Calculator (.xls 688 kB) may assist in calculating the applicable rent according to the location and type of house. (This is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. If your system supports Excel but the document doesn't open on-line, try right-clicking the link and "save as" to your computer. Then open the document from there.)
When is a tenant responsible for maintenance?
Where damage is caused by reasons other than general wear and tear.
For example:
damage to walls and doors by furniture, wall posters or careless picture hanging
damage to floor coverings, window treatments or furnishings by burns, stains etc.
cost of clearing blocked drains, if the blockage is caused through misuse
electrical fuses or circuits damaged by the occupant(s) using faulting electrical appliances
eradication of household pests and vermin such as mice, cockroaches, ants or fleas that can be directly attributed to occupant standards or pets
damage to fly-screens caused by occupant misuse
upkeep of lawns and garden areas, including reticulation systems
replacement of lost keys
damage or loss of any furniture supplied by GROH
Water consumption
GROH tenants are responsible for paying water consumption costs. For those residing in serviced units, GROH will pay the water consumption costs. Water consumption rates vary around the State and escalate on a sliding scale.
For further information please refer to GROH's Water Consumption Policy.
